Back on the Faust List people were talking about Analogue Synths.
I have, and Like the Arturia Vintage Synth package (Moog Modular, MiniMoog, Yamaha CS80 and ARP 2600) they all sound good and I can get some of the old intereaction by connecting my Big Box of Knobs (with apologies to Vince Clarke), The Behringer BCR 2000 which allows you to control up to 32 parameters at one with rotary knobs.

I have also been quite impressed by the "real" "virtual" instruments that have been turning up int he music shops lately, by Roland and Korg - a digital engine under the hood, but all the bodywork is analogue.

Finally thomann.de have an itneresing looking modular setup, aparently a modern modular analogue synth system.

Jim,

I too use and really love the Arturia synths - great results from them. The Moog Mudular is one of my faves.

I own a Sequential Circuits Pro1 which is a blast but as you mention, with the right controller you can't beat soft synths.
I recall the days of room sized syths that required hours of set up and wires up the wazoo - sure they look great, but I actually don't miss them. Same thing with my days of making films and showing film on 16mm - ugh, all that horror of melts and lamps blowing while you have a full house watching, splicing, breaks that spooled film all over the floor...I am gladly enjoying the digital age now and that goes for analog synths software also.

On hte subject of film we have the last Supercinema in the country (I believe) the Stockport Plaza. I don't think the digital visual arena has really made it yet the way audio has. I'm looking for a time when I can dial in Kodachrome 64 on a camear and a [hysical/chemical model of the film.

you can see some decent results that would have you fooled, but yeah being able to dial in as you mention would be great in that regard...
