Does anyone know of any sources of training for use of MAX/MSP software? I have tried IRCAM, but most of their courses are in French (que je parle comme un garcon de l'ecole Anglais).
I have also found a course at Goldsmith's but apparently it only runs in the Summer.
Also interested in any alternative music programming languages / production environments you are familiar with.
I dont know if this would help you in anyway...but are you aware of the CEC (Canadian Electro Acoustic Community) e mail discussioin list. I've only been a member for about a month but it seems people post questions like this all the time...and get several responses in return. Maybe someone there would be able to help.
Only problem is...I dont know where the portal to this list is...I need to ask someone. When I get the answer I'll post here.
Tom Berger on the list knows a lot about MAX/MSP, so you might ask him. Actually, he uses the open source version of it, but the communities overlap significantly.... let's ask him to join this group and elaborate
I don't know of any good sources for learning MAX/MSP. However, PD, the free version created by Miller Puckette, the original creator of MAX, comes with a complete course on digital music, designed for music students and with examples in PD. You may be able to use that course for MAX too, since the programs are so similar, but why not just use PD itself? It's free, and has a wonderful community, so it's much easier to get help and exchange ideas.
I've got at least 2 friends that are very familiar with MAX/MSP and I'll ask them for more info but untill then have you tried the following link: http://www.cycling74.com/twiki/bin/view/ProductDocumentation/WebHom...
Here you can find an extensive documentation and tutorials about MAX/MSP in English...
Thanks for the help so far, I suppose I ought to explain that I work in Education - an environment which traditionally has had the philosophy "Teacher, teach thyself" but the fact is that with the RSI inducing power of windows I haven't got the endurance to churn through menus, help systems etc anymore if there is good training available that will get me up to speed. So please keep it coming but I am particularly interested in training courses.
