Well, your roving reporter did go, along with Mr Ian Land, well-known gentleman of this parish, and very magnificent it was too, most definitely worthy of laudation (hopefully someone out there will get that reference)...

Excellent sound, which is a must for this music, and we both had the impression they were using less in the way of pre-recorded keyboard and sax bits- they were still there, but not as much- it seems that Kavus Torabi has been tasked with playing some of these parts on guitar and this works better than I would have imagined. It also frees them up to wander off at times- they even went into a mutant version of ye olde Gong/Hillage Om Riff for a minute or two.

Setlist, for those who care, was something like... (order probably wrong)

Big Ship
Tarred and Feathered
Fiery Gun Hand
Icing on the World
? new song
Buds and Spawn (one of my faves, don't think I've seen them do this live before, and this was very good indeed)
The Breakfast Line
To Go Off And Things
? new song
Day Is Gone
Dive
RES
Dirty Boy

Encores:
? new song (think this may have been the new single Ditzy Scene).
The Everso Closely Guarded Line (a song which the band once considered unplayable live. They did it for - AFAIK- the first time last year , but tonight they really nailed it).

What a strange, uplifting band they are.

I think there may be a few gigs left on this tour- check www.cardiacs.com, I'm off to bed.

It was much better than last year, I get the feeling they've been working quite hard. The new single is on their myspace page btw: http://www.myspace.com/cardiacs

Let's hope they actually get round to releasing the new LP they've been promising for years.

I took some photos. The place was a bit rammed to get close, but a few worked out OK.

A few more here.

Some good ones there- I can see one or two of these adorning an album, maybe you should send them to the band? (Through the Myspace page maybe?)

Speaking of which, the new single is rather fine.
