Bit short of time (for a change) this morning, but I think this is going to be great. It would be so good if this became a message board rather than email threads. This would be my new home page I think!

I've worked out what the catch is, I think - once we get the group to a certain size (in terms of videos, images, tunes, uploaded) we have to pay for the service. On the other hand, the free storage (5Gb, 100Gb bandwidth) isn't bad, so let's run with it and see what happens....

Is the 5G per member or for the whole site - I have been uploading lots of stuff - maybe I'm hogging too much space?

generally speaking high traffic means high exposure for their adds, so it could be a non financially investing traffic generating list .... anyway it's fun playing with this ning thing

i think it's 5GB each, but i wouldn't swear to it....

Surely it shouldn't take over 50 mins to upload a 3 and a half minute video clip. I'm going to give up now as I want some tea. I'll try again - there may be some other problem.
This whole thing takes up a lot of time but it's more like being part of a group with pictures and things, still finding my way around.

hey ronny,

I think I just want to see how much faust-list (faust-pages, faust on myspace, faust on flickr, etc) could be collected into one place - at the moment I'm having to keep the faust-pages up to date, check and update myspace everyday, etc., and i don't have time to do any of it (and that's just Faust stuff - I should be doing sunseastar things!). So it's a simple matter of trying to find a more efficient way of getting everything done..... the list itself may or may not make the transition - if i can get enough people to make the jump to this space i think i'll close the list, as this kind of setup is better at some things (separating the different discusions, announcements, etc.)... but we'll see. i'm sure there must be a downside to this Ning! setup... there usually is with these kind of thigns ;-)

...but can people just join this without being invited? - most people who joined the list didn't know anyone else on it initially to be invited by.
..and is it visible to people who are not members? - I guess it would be quite nice if you knew exactly who you were communicating with, as presumably the list contained a high number of lurkers.

yep, it will soon be visible (to Google and to Ning browsers), and anyone can join it. also, of course, i'll link to it from the faust-pages site

I do understand your decision to get some workload out of the way. The myspace thing can be really timeconsuming, and it is difficult to be efficient there as well. Have you ever considered just having the original web-site? and maybe a messageboardforum or something? I now to little about what works best and what is more efficient with less time to waste on it.
